We did it! LockNet survived another trade show season. Not only do trade shows offer opportunities for us to meet old and new clients, it gives us a general idea of where the security industry is going. We keep track of the topics that are most talked about at the trade shows throughout the season and it helps to see the trends for the following year and what people want.
This year there were a few popular topics.
Trade Show Questions
Delayed Egress
Delayed egress can sound a little scary. Rules and regulations are very specific for delayed egress and are often based on the jurisdiction where your facility resides, which can cause a headache. Different facilities in different jurisdictions mean separate rules for each facility.
While our sales team can’t go into the individual rules and regulations for each jurisdiction for delayed egress, they’re able to give you the group or person you can contact to find out the specific rules. Knowing the first person to call is a great first step to get you moving in the right direction.
Cabinet Locks
Cabinet locks are a consistently popular topic at trade shows. We meet with a lot of potential retail clients and, of course, cabinet lock security is top-of-mind. More often than not, though, the facility manager isn’t sure of the options available.
Thank goodness for Vicki Heilig.
(She’s my go-to whenever I have a question about cabinets for a blog post.)
The most common question is whether or not it’s possible to have an IC core on their cabinets so they can use the same key throughout the store. This includes the same key for doors which eliminates the need for your managers to have multiple keys. Fortunately, this is a possibility and can be done quite easily.
Key Systems
(Come on. You guys knew you weren’t getting out of here without me mentioning key systems at least once.)
Key systems are always a hot topic. Many retailers are intrigued by them, but never know where to start. More often than not, they become overwhelmed when they try to figure it out on their own and eventually give up before they actually get anywhere.
At trade shows, we try to give people the information that lets them get started. This way they can get the basics for what they need to know to begin the decision making process. Installing a key system isn’t as complicated as it seems and since it’s one of the things we specialize in, we’re more than happy to help.
Do you have more questions about delayed egress, key systems or cabinet locks? Something else entirely? We’re more than happy to help!
