At LockNet, we only do work on commercial buildings. Despite this, we get multiple requests for help and advice on issues people are having with residential doors.

Of course, we always do our best to help them.

Door closers are, hands-down, our number one topic for questions. We get multiple questions a week from people asking how they can get their doors to stop slamming or how to keep them from swinging open in the wind. Usually, it’s from a homeowner desperate to save a door on their house.

Dave Path, one of the LockNet project managers (and the same guy who locked himself out that I talked about earlier this week), always takes time out of his day to answer questions people may have.

A New Request for LockNet

Earlier this week, however, we experienced a first. A grandmother doing some research for a playhouse she had built for her granddaughter stumbled upon our website. She was afraid the door to the playhouse would catch in the wind and a child would be hurt if they forgot to hold the door open while they were climbing in and out.

While she was looking for solutions, she found one of our ever-popular posts on door closers and it sounded like it might be just the thing she needed so she sent us an email.

Now, I don’t know if you guys know this, but LockNet doesn’t specialize in anything for playhouses for children.

At all.

But that didn’t stop Dave from doing his best to help her solve the problem. He researched the issue she detailed in the email and came up with a solution. He emailed her back with suggestions to what she can do to stop the door from slamming and/or swinging open when caught in the wind.

Dave didn’t have to take time out of his day to help her with the problem. In fact, I would be willing to bet many companies may have even ignored the email altogether. Not Dave.
