Every year LockNet chooses a charitable giving project during the holidays, and every year it seems to get more awe-inspiring. This year could be hard to top after the countless rolls of wrapping paper, dozens of toy aisles walked, and three truckloads of neatly wrapped packages were hauled away to the homes of 20 families in the local Nicholasville area.
LockNet partnered with a local church (by local I mean across the street) and the Salvation Army who runs the Angel Tree operations of Central Kentucky. Cynthia Walker, LockNet’s administrative assistant, heads up our charitable giving, and so many LockNet employees wanted to be involved that she had to request additional names THREE times.
LockNet Gives Back – Angel Tree
The recipients varied from families of three to one family of seven, which included a two month old baby boy; but what’s on the Christmas Wish List of a two month old? Warm blankets and clothes, socks, bottles, bibs….. The mommy in me gets teary-eyed thinking about the all the families dreading the lack of presents under their tree on Christmas morning.
The good news is this story ends with a Christmas miracle brought to you by none other than my fellow LockNet employees. I’m fortunate to work with a group of individuals with unyielding generosity. My respect for each and every one of my coworkers was magnified ten-fold by their response to these families and their needs.
Over the last three weeks gifts trickled in one bag at a time making our reception area look more like Santa’s workshop than a call center. Everything from diapers and formula for that sweet little two-month-old I mentioned, to a brand new bike for a little girl who had never had one. LockNet employees brought in hundreds of gifts for the families we sponsored this holiday season. In fact, there were so many gifts that the Salvation Army’s delivery facility couldn’t accommodate them all. Instead, volunteers took the gifts straight to the trees of the families they were meant for.
Happy Holidays from LockNet
The ‘reason for the season’ is different from family to family, but this family is counting their blessings an extra time or two during the holidays. However you find yourself celebrating the season, be it Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah, happy holidays from our family to yours.
