I like the look of wood doors, but I am having a lot of problems with their longevity and functionality. What are my options?
Wood doors are beautiful, but they can quickly lose aesthetic appeal due to use, abuse, fading, cracking, and warping. They also aren’t always as functional as other door types. The good news is that there are now alternative products that resolve most, if not all of these issues.
Eliminate Fading, Warping & Cracking with CurriStain Doors
CurriStain doors (pictured right) are made of galvanized steel that is stamped, stained, and coated with a UV inhibitor urethane topcoat and are available in six standard stains as well as custom colors; this process gives the appearance of wood without the sensitivity to fading, warping and cracking. Our customers claim that people don’t even know they are metal doors and said they had never seen anything like it. At about half the cost of traditional wood doors and a fraction of the up keep, CurriStain is a viable option.
Increase Wood Door Functionality with Upgraded Hardware
Sometimes, doors need to be double acting. Traditional metal double acting doors are very functional, but may not be as appealing to the eye as wood doors. McKinney’s horizontal spring hinges allow you to add the double acting functionality without losing the aesthetic appeal of wood. The spring hinge is attached to the bottom of the door, and a pivot at the top of the door; this allows the door to swing freely in both directions.
Wooden frames also pose a host of issues that lead to door alignment problems as they tend to sag and disconnect from the opening over time. We recommend installing a hollow metal heavy-duty frame accompanied by a wood casing. Timely Industries manufactures steel, aluminum, and PVC frames; all of which are known for their long-term commercial lifespan. The wood casing can be custom milled by Timely or provided by an outside supplier of your choice.
