With Earth Day last week, it really got me thinking about the eco-friendly products that are available in the door and hardware industry these days. We have the option of green Division 10 accessories available and just recently someone here at the office was telling me about the EcoPower Power Supply.
Electric strikes have so many great advantages, but one of their downfalls in large facilities is the constant use of power. Electric strikes are constantly pulling from their power supply and while, it’s not a great deal of power for just one strike, imagine if you have a facility where you use several of these. Your electric bill can take a pretty hard hit.
Thankfully, there’s a new option on the market.
EcoPower Power Supply
With this particular power supply, it functions as a regular power supply, except it doesn’t use nearly as much power. In fact, the EcoPower reduces the amount of power used by 99 percent compared to other power supply options on the market.
It charges the batteries for the electric strike until they’re full, but once that happens it stops drawing power. So, when you use your credential to open a door, the electric strike uses the stored power in the power supply batteries to allow the door to open.
Once the batteries are near empty again, the power supply will flip back on to recharge the batteries.
While it doesn’t get energy consumption down to zero percent when it isn’t in the act of drawing power, it gets pretty darn close. According to Assa Abloy, the EcoPower has the capability of reducing total door power consumption from a whopping 12 watts or more to 0.3 watts.
Another great feature of the EcoPower is, aesthetically, it’s pretty pleasing. It’s created so it can be mounted in a couple of different ways. If you don’t like the look of a power supply box, this one can be recessed into the drywall, making it virtually hidden. If you have a drop ceiling, you also have the option of mounting it on the ceiling.
If you’re looking for a more eco-friendly option, the EcoPower supply is an excellent choice. If electrified hardware is something you’re interested in but you just don’t know where to start, we’ve got several people available who can point you in the right direction.
Either way, you can give us a buzz and we’ll be happy to help you out!
