Do you know how many repair and maintenance work orders you submit each year for crash bars on your delivery doors? If you’re like some of our customers, it can be quite a few. From stock carts to makeshift door props to unorthodox ways of opening the door (i.e. kicking the door open – yes, it happens more often than one would think), delivery doors take a lot of abuse.
A common side effect of this abuse is damaged and/or malfunctioning crash bars. It is for this reason that our customers often want to know:
“What are some of the most durable crash bars available on today’s market?”
There are five different crash bars that we recommend. What we like about these crash bars is that they don’t require a lot of maintenance. The Von Duprin devices (not listed here) have recommended maintenance schedules that should be adhered to in order to keep them in tip-top shape. These are able to maintain their functionality and durability without the added hassle.
Durable Crash Bars
Sur-Lock
LockNet’s Sur-Lock has been dubbed by some of our customers as a “tank.” It can take an extreme beating and keep on working. It is for this reason that it is often used specifically for delivery doors.
The other great thing about the Sur-Lock is that the claw-latch design enables it to maintain positive latching despite the door alignment problems that often times plague delivery doors.
Dorma 9000 Series
The Dorma 9000 series crash bar is an extremely heavy-duty crash bar. What makes this device unique is that Dorma uses a stainless cast head to produce the hardware instead of using stamped steel. There are also four mounting points versus two.
Detex ECL230X
The Detex ECL230X is considered a high-security exit device with top, bottom, and center bolts plus the added security of a hinge-side deadbolt. We have found this to be a very durable device that can withstand the test of time.
Another added bonus is that these devices are windstorm-rated, so if you are building in a hurricane prone area, this is a great device to consider.
Yale 7000 With a Square Bolt
The Yale 7000 series crash bar is a very durable device. It can be ordered with a square bolt, which makes the device incredibly rugged and reliable. The construction of the square bolt is much stronger than that of a traditional bolt.
Much like the Detex ECL230X, this device can also be windstorm-rated.
Sargent 80 Series
The Sargent 80 series crash bar is another great option. They are incredibly rugged and can also be windstorm-rated.
