Our CEO Chad Miller is officially a rock star. He completed his first full Ironman on Sunday 6/23 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We were all impressed when he completed a Half-Ironman in April, but that accomplishment barely holds a candle to this one. An Ironman is a triathlon that puts even the most extreme athlete to the test. Competitors start with a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, and end by running a full marathon (26.2 miles). Chad managed to conquer this grueling course in 15 hours and 35 minutes.
His day was not without some unique challenges that made him the talk of the competition. When he arrived, he realized that his bike had a flat tire needing repair. Then, on mile 30 of the bike ride while on the most narrow section of road, a truck hit a road cone that flew up and hit the front of Chad’s bike causing him to wreck. Traveling at least 20 miles per hour when he wrecked, he’s lucky to have only sustained a severe road rash and bruised hip. After being cleared by medics and replacing yet another flat tire, he powered through the remaining 82 miles, rested for 5 ½ minutes, and went on to run a marathon.
This accomplishment is the culmination of over 8 months of dedication and training. It has entailed early morning and late evening workouts, full-day workouts over weekends, food restrictions, and sacrificing time with friends and family. It was well worth it for the achievement of the title “Ironman”. Chad – we are all very proud of you and wish you some much deserved R&R and healing!
