National Locksmith Dispatching: Three Things to Consider

Best Practices > National Locksmith Dispatching: Three Things to Consider

locksmith, national locksmithLet me guess. You are currently sitting at your desk going cross-eyed looking at all of the national locksmith listings.

Who do you call? Where do you even start?

All you know is you have had what is fondly referred to in the restaurant and retail industry as an “event” (a.k.a. a huge pain that has to be dealt with right now), and you need a reliable technician to rekey one of your locations in Timbuktu.

We get it. Actually, it’s what we do every day. Instead of reinventing the wheel, here are a few things you should consider to get started.

National Locksmith: The Three Rs

Are They Reliable?

First and foremost, you want to ensure you work with a national locksmith on which you can rely.

How do you know if you can depend on a locksmith shop halfway across the country?

A few simple Internet searches go a long way. Check out the Better Business Bureau, their Facebook page (if they have one), and see if they have any Google reviews. If you regularly look for locksmiths, consider joining Clearstar Security Network where you can look up information and reviews on different technicians.

Are They Reputable?

Nothing would be worse than thinking you had a national locksmith lined up to rekey a location only to find they actually made copies of the keys for themselves, or helped themselves to money in the tip jar.

You want to ensure you hire someone who you can trust.

Be sure to ask them if they run background checks on their technicians.

Also, find out if there are any licensing requirements in your state. If so, be sure the technicians carry the appropriate licensing and insurance.

Are They Ready?

Lastly, make sure they are ready to do the work.

If you have an issue with your safe, you need a technician who is qualified to work on safes. Same with doors.

In other words, not all locksmiths are skilled in all areas of locksmithing. It’s important to ask some qualifying questions such as:

  1. Have you worked on (insert your problem here) before?
  2. What is your rate for this type of work?
  3. How long do you anticipate this work taking?

Taking these three Rs into consideration when dispatching a national locksmith will help you ensure you get the right tech for the job. Yes, you may have to make a few more phone calls, but it will save you a lot of headache in the end.
