One of the big things LockNet prides itself on is the fact that our company has been built on a steady foundation of four generations. Four generations of people have combined their ingenuity and entrepreneurial skills to develop and improve upon a company that’s not only strong in its market, but strong in its values as well. Recently, Clay Miller, the owner of LockMasters, LockNet’s sister company was recognized for all of his accomplishments.
The Lexington Herald Leader did a small expose on Clay, detailing the background he grew up with and how he came around to settling LockMaster’s in the tiny town of Nicholasville, KY. It spotlighted Clay and how his grandfather originally worked for Diebold and erected bank vaults throughout the United States. Eventually, this lead Clay’s grandfather, John, and father, Harry, to government work in DC where they founded Safemasters. This company eventually evolved into LockMasters and in 1981 Clay took over the family business and chose to settle in Nicholasville.
LockMasters is now mainly focused on education, offering classes in manipulation, servicing safe locks and drilling. They offer a wealth of knowledge that is routinely being used and taught by some of the best technicians in the industry. In fact, a new training facility just opened right outside of Washington, D.C. and isn’t relegated to facility locks anymore. They’ve begun to include automotive locks in their repertoire. With Clay’s son, Mark, taking over the reins, it’s comforting to see the business being kept in the family.
Mark is the father of two daughters who he hopes to hand the business over to one day but if not, he also has a nephew who’s interested in the industry. Either way, the legacy of LockMasters and LockNet doesn’t seem to be going anywhere but in the family.
