Locks & Links: The LockNet Roundup

Bits from the Industry > Locks & Links: The LockNet Roundup

LockNetYesterday Kentucky was absolutely hammered with a huge snowstorm which practically shut down the entire state. (We’re in the South. We don’t handle frozen precipitation very well. Even the mall was closed, for Pete’s sake!) Rain, shine, sleet, or snow, though, we’re still here with your monthly roundup of door, lock, and security news. So, without any further adieu, let’s get to it.

The LockNet Roundup:

Gesture Technology

Just a few weeks ago we were discussing how we’re basically all living in the exact same future Marty McFly experienced himself in Back to the Future II. Ok, fine, maybe it’s not exactly same, but there are similarities, and this article provides more proof. Gesture technology is exactly what it sounds like, and it’s dipping its toe into the access control pool. Combined with smartlocks, gesture technology allows users to gesture with their phones (i.e. twisting it like one would twist a lever set) to open doors. The possibilities that this technology bring to the table are fascinating, so this article is definitely worth a read.

Wireless Home Security Systems

For years, people have relied on companies like ADT for security systems in their homes. Now with the latest advances in technology, going through a third party to have your security system installed and managed is no longer necessary. This article gives the lowdown on options to install and monitor your own home security for a fraction of the cost of professional companies.

Lockitron Bolt

For a few years now, Lockitron has been on the smartlock scene. Unfortunately, their first attempt wasn’t a success (due to lagging production times and an overwhelming number of backorders). However, they seem to have worked through their kinks and are now introducing a redesigned lock. Built with sturdier materials than the previous incarnation, this smartlock will be worth a second glance when it debuts in the spring.

Have you got any news on the security front? We’d love to hear from you!
