Downsides to Black Friday?

Bits from the Industry > Downsides to Black Friday?

“The busiest shopping day of the year since 2003”

“$52.5 Billion spent in 2011”

“226 Million Shoppers in 2011”

“$398.62 – Average dollar amount spent per shopper”

“147 Million Shoppers expected in 2012”

Thanksgiving Day (now referred to as Black Thursday to deal-seeking shoppers) and Black Friday have become bigger than ever. This is great news for our partners in the retail industry, but not so great news for their doors and locking hardware.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) expects 147 million shoppers on Black Friday this year. With increased traffic flow of that magnitude there’s no uncertainty that there are going to be some emergency door and lock repairs for those folks.

Emergencies don’t stop for the holidays, it’s just that simple. That’s why LockNet is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. In 2011 we received 15 emergency service requests on Thanksgiving Day, and 54 calls were processed on Black Friday. This year, will undoubtedly be no different. With stores starting their sales as early as 8:00 PM Thursday night we’re guessing these numbers will actually increase this year.

How is your company preparing for the madness of Black Thursday and Black Friday?
